Well, actually, it shouldn’t be all that surprising that Pixar chose its worst reviewed and, generally, poorest received film as only its second to receive a sequel (following the “Toy Story” franchise). “Cars” has easily been the most lucrative film the studio has released in terms of profits yielded from film-related merchandise. Something tells me that the Mouse House—of whom Pixar is still a subsidiary—had a hand in bringing “Cars 2” to the big screen. I’d like to hope the folks at Pixar, who have set the precedent for animated films, had their hands tied.

Then again, money talks. And “Cars 2”—despite a dismal 38% approval rating on ‘Rotten Tomatoes’—is poised to make lots of it this weekend.

DON'T CUT IT OUT!:

Yes, we are ~14 trillion dollars in debt and, if left unattended, that debt could quite possibly become a problem too large for us the surmount. Be that as it may, don’t believe that the only way to solve our fiscal woes are to “cut, cut, cut” as Republicans have so wrongly averred. Yes, spending needs to be reined in, but not where Republicans are currently wielding the ax. Rather than cut social safety nets like Medicare and Social Security altogether, we should focus our attention on America’s crippling health care costs (which have grown—and will continue to grow exponentially) and our inexplicably large military. The facts are typed in indelible ink, and anyone with half a brain knows that these two things are to blame for our rising debts.

Adele is slaying the competition. Her sophomore album, “21” has reached the summit of the Billboard 200 a whopping 10 times since its debut in late February. Since dropping the LP, she has fended off the likes of Chris Brown, the Foo Fighters and even the supposed Queen of Pop, Lady Gaga to remain at or near the top of the charts—and there is no end in sight. Moreover, the lead single of the album, “Rolling in the Deep” has been number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 6 weeks and counting, becoming one of the most viral, ubiquitous records of the year. Remarkable.

And we thought “good” music was dead.

I've heard a lot of dumb reasons for being against gay marriage...:

…but this takes the cake. David Tyree, former wide receiver for the New York Giants, recently said that gay marriage will “lead to anarchy” (if made legal) and that he “would probably” trade his Super Bowl victory to block gay marriage in New York state, if given the opportunity. Irrespective of personal faith or conviction, every one should dismiss this statement as utterly ridiculous. Stupid, really.

Sometimes I wonder how much worse the world would be if more clowns like him inhabited the Earth.

It must suck to be Joss Stone.

Let’s be frank—Joss Stone spearheaded the “Oh sh*t, white girl can sang!” movement that started in the UK circa 2004. And, yet, she’s only benefitted marginally from it.

I never quite understood why. That voice is undeniable. She writes or co-writes a majority of her songs. Her impassioned performances are goosebump-worthy. But she’s an afterthought. Always has been, and probably always will be. And now Adele is kicking a*s and taking names, as her album “21” has been number one for 10 weeks and is showing no signs of slowing down. Oh, and Amy has the tabloids on lock. Girl can’t get positive or negative publicity.

Oh, and did I mention someone was plotting to kill her?

Yeah, it sucks to be her. Oh well, I’ll keep on rockin’ her “Introducing…” album like I just heard it for the first time.

Green Lantern made an estimated $52.6 million during from North America during its opening weekend. While this may sound like a great accomplishment, the road ahead looks to be rocky, as it currently holds a 25% approval rating on ‘Rotten Tomatoes.’

I estimate the film will end its domestic run with ~$120-125M which, in my opinion, is hardly the type of returns needed to initiate a franchise. We’ll see though.

Cities are "running out" of government workers.:

And at the top of that list: New Orleans.

Now while this may not seem alarming to most, it should be of grave concern, especially to minorities. The government’s payroll is disproportionately minority, and minorities have already been some of the biggest victims of the “Great Recession” (e.g., the unemployment rate for blacks in the US currently hovers ~16%, while the white unemployment rate is approximately half that at ~8%).

And many politicians—namely Republicans—continue to call for draconian cuts. And so it goes.

Relative to most advanced nations, and even relative to tax rates from decades ago, the United States has low taxes. Period. It’s an immutable fact. Now I’m not an economist, nor am I feigning as though I am, but, as always, the devil is in the details.

And most Americans aren’t taking the time to read them.

but i lied. Clearly, here I am. My primary goal will be to post left-leaning, liberal posts that underscore what is inherently wrong with America. After that, any and every topic is fair game.

I’m a fairly simple person; there are only three things I expect you to know about me at all times:

1) First, and foremost, I hate cheesecake. I don’t want it near me, it wreaks of dreadfulness, and it tastes terrible.

2) I believe Sarah Palin is single-handedly destroying our country’s youth.

3) I might be a southern expatriate who found residence in the big apple, but ain’t nothin’ like a Saturday night in Death Valley! (Geaux Tigers!)
